What should I see when I visit the North East of America?
Am planning a six week trip around the NE of the USA - currently thinking NY to Washington, tho am open to novel suggestions. Looking for the more unusual ideas rather than the standard Empire State, Galleries, etc that I can find in any book or leaflet on the subject. No idea too daft or stupid!

What time of year?
You could hit a game at each of the major league baseball parks - but you would have to be into baseball and be in the area between April and September.
You could do a chow tour. I.e. hit a bunch of hot dog stands or diners or ice cream stands or something similar. http://www.chow.com/food-news/chow-tour-innovation/
Six weeks is a long time, you could do a significant driving tour. Maybe rent a motorcycle and tour around with no agenda and limit yourself to side streets - no main roads. Getting lost is half the fun.
